Nail fungus is unsightly and can be difficult to treat. Although it affects thousands of people all around the world, most people don’t understand the causes of toenail fungus. How did they end up with this unsightly condition? What can they do to prevent it now and in the future? Is there nail fungus treatment or a nail fungus cure?
Many people will never understand exactly how they ended up with toenail fungus. A lot of people honestly don’t care. They are embarrassed to have their toenails seen so they always cover them up with shoes. Some people do care what caused their nail fungus in an effort to keep it away if they can get rid of it.
Trauma is one of the beginning causes of toenail fungus. When you stub your toe or your nail impacts something causing trauma to the nail, the nail many times lifts from the nail bed permitting fungus to creep underneath and become established within the nail bed. If the nail is treated very soon after, the fungus may be prevented. Your doctor can tell you how to thwart bacteria and fungus after getting it beneath your nail bed. Peroxide, betadine, salt water solutions and gentian violet might all be useful. However, proceed with caution as these treatments may not be recommended with severe trauma. Always consult your Dr. before proceeding with any treatment.
Environment is a leading cause of toenail fungus and fingernail fungus and in particular a humid environment. When the nail is exposed to above average humidity, areas high in PH, or warm temperatures, an environment ideal for fungus can take root. Ideally, create a dry, well ventilated, and acidic environment to help prevent toenail fungus. Vegetarians are more likely to develop nail fungus due to having a diet highly alkaline. Moisturizers are generally somewhat acidic. There are many moisturizers that provide an acidic pH. Avoid synthetic socks which do not wick water away from your feet.
You may have compromised your immune system. If the immune system is not functioning properly and up to its best potential, it can not fight off intruders such as fungus. Support the immune system with rest, exercise, a well balanced diet and supplements.
Poor blood circulation can cause a variety of problems including toenail fungus. Your immune system relies on proper blood flow. Poor blood flow means and poorly a operating immune system and more susceptibility to toenail fungus. The fungus is more likely to set in. Additionally, poor circulation can lead to the nail not getting proper nutrition. A nail without proper nutrition is easily damaged. We already know that nail trauma can lead to nail fungus. Exercise, dress appropriate for the conditions, and consider long warm showers. All lead to better circulation and can be one of the nail fungus cures. Treat yourself to a sauna or steam bath to improve circulation. Wear proper foot protection though or you may be increasing your risk rather than helping prevent yourself from getting nail fungus.
Nail fungus can be contagious. It generally thrives in moist places. Walking around in bare feet can open you up to catching nail fungus. The obvious places are showers, bathrooms, and locker rooms. Sharing a nail file can be a problem as well. Nail salons are another culprit. Make sure all nail files and other items that contact the nails of other clients are washed and sanitized prior to being used on your feet.
Sometimes there may be no obvious cause for nail fungus. Nail fungus treatment is sometimes not very effective so take all the proper steps possible to avoid it. Prevention is much preferred to treatment. Most of us know someone with toenail fungus and we know first hand how difficult it can be to eliminate it.
